Ajax winger Antony wants a transfer to Man United immediately, with the Reds reciprocating the interest.
To date, Manchester United haven’t made a signing this summer despite a whole lot of links.
The lads returned to pre-season training yesterday, with many familiar faces making up the initial batch of players who are back at the AON Training Complex.
Honestly, it was really nice to see Erik ten Hag hold his first training session, though I don’t doubt the Dutchman would like a few new faces to arrive before the window is over…
Winger Antony is one man who has been heavily linked with a move. It’s a rumour that makes sense, given the pair worked together at Ajax just last season.
Now, Fabrizio Romano has given us a pretty major update in pursuit of Antony.
Apparently, the 22-year-old attacker wants a move to Man United ‘immediately’, with the Reds also wanting to sign the Brazilian in return.
“He [Antony] wants Man Utd immediately, so it is sending a good message to the club and Man United want him.” Romano told The United Stand on YouTube.
As things stand, I guess it comes down to whether the two clubs can agree upon a deal. First, it requires a willingness from Ajax to part with one of their prized assets. It also depends on the eventual price as the Old Trafford club aren’t wanting to overpay for anyone this summer.
Bringing Antony in would offer some familiarity to Ten Hag, who is looking to make an instant impact on life at his new club. The winger contributed directly to 22 goals last term and although the Premier League is an entirely different beast, our Dutch manager knows how to get the best out of the player.
Personally, I feel like a move for a midfielder like Frenkie de Jong should be the number one priority. However, our wingers were extremely inconsistent last season so a new toy up front definitely wouldn’t go amiss.
With less than two weeks before the squad jet off for pre-season tour, the powers that be at United have to act quickly to get this deal done in time.
