Midfielder Arnau Puigmal has decided to call time on his Man United career.
Just a month or so ago, we covered a claim which stated that Arnau Puigmal was expected to depart from Old Trafford – and head to Spain for a new challenge.
All had gone quiet on that front, until yesterday afternoon…
The, Spanish side Almeria would confirm that they’ve signed Puigmal after leaving United permanently. The talented 20-year-old midfielder has put pen to paper on a contract until 2026.
Puigmal had enjoyed a stunning start to the 2020/21 campaign with United’s U23s, scoring 7 goals in 12 games. However, it never looked as though the midfielder was going to sign a new deal at Old Trafford.
Instead, he’d let his contract expire, in favour of returning back to his homeland as he looked to play some first-team football at a good level.
Puigmal will now play in the Spanish second division in the 2021/22 campaign, where he’ll be reunited with a familiar face in the form of Largie Ramazani. The young attacker made exactly the same career move just last summer.
While it’s tough to lose someone as talented as Puigmal, you have to understand the reasoning behind it. The 20-year-old never looked like getting a first-team opportunity at Old Trafford. Couple that with the fact that he’s now closer to his family back in Spain and it does seem like a no-brainer to move back home.
Hopefully, Puigmal now receives the first-team minutes his talent deserves, with the hope he can help his new team to a promotion in the upcoming campaign.
All the best, Arnau!
