Credit where it’s due, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has done some great work at Manchester United since arriving – amongst his tasks was clearing out the dead-wood.
Several players have been shipped out, though there is still much work ahead. For several United fans, Jesse Lingard is now pretty high on that list. Well, according to The Athletic, he could be an Arsenal target…
Apparently, the Premier League giant Arsenal could attempt to sign the £100k-a-week United star (Goal) before next season, with the Warrington-born-attacker falling out of favour in Manchester.
Lingard hasn’t been helped by the arrival of Bruno Fernandes and an ever-improving Mason Greenwood who has taken his spot on that right-hand side.
It’s a massive shame because during Jose Mourinho’s first eighteen months or so, Lingard was brilliant. The Englishman was finally starting to put in quality performances on a consistent basis, though that form has massively dipped in the subsequent couple of seasons.
Everyone loves it when homegrown talents succeed, and I love watching Lingard having fun both out on the field and in and around the training ground. However, when you’re not producing the goods, supporters will turn pretty quickly.
It’s unfortunate, but for several Reds fans, it feels like their mind has been made up and they’ll be no changing that. A move to Arsenal wouldn’t be a massive step down, whereas Lingard would be joining a club that’d suit his playing style.
Perhaps a change in scenery is what Lingard needs to get back to his best. After all, he’s still only 27 and has some good years still ahead of him.
