Arsenal show an interest in £16.5million Manchester United man – report

Huge things were expected of Phil Jones when he made the switch to Old Trafford back in 2011, and he certainly started out excellently. However, injuries over the last couple of seasons have knocked him down a peg or two, and now his future at Manchester United is in doubt.

The London Evening Standard reckon that Arsenal have made a bid for the man who cost United £16.5million as a teenager, but Mourinho isn’t keen on selling the Englishman just yet.

Jones is now 24, and Arsenal have been chasing a centre-back all summer, but United rarely sell to their rivals unless their hands are totally forced. At this point in time, it would feel slightly premature to part with Phil Jones because he is clearly immensely talented.

There is no doubting the fact that the former Blackburn Rovers defender will get his opportunities this season. It makes sense for all involved to stick with Jones for one more season, and if he can overcome those injuries, we’ll have a real player on our hands.

How about Marcos Rojo instead, eh Arsene?
