Arsene Wenger confirms Manchester United’s interest in Vermaelen

As the Manchester United squad and manager have now returned home, the club’s transfer activity was expected to increase before the season starts. Today, we’ve learnt that Arsenal captain, Thomas Vermaelen, could make the move to Old Trafford before the season starts.

Wenger added that he’d prefer to sell abroad, but similarly to the Robin van Persie situation a couple of summers ago, Arsenal could be left helpless in the situation.

Sky Sources believe that Vermaelen’s preferred destination is Old Trafford as he’s more or less guaranteed playing time at the heart of Louis van Gaal’s back three – despite major interest from Catalan giants Barcelona.

Wenger said:

“Manchester United are part of the group [of bidders]. He could leave,”

“Ideally we will sell him to a foreign club and it is an option for us. We have offers from abroad as well.”

Wenger went on to say that we’d know more about the Vermaelen situation ‘very soon’ indicating some official movement is probably just around the corner.
