Ashley Young expects to leave Man United next summer: report

Out of nowhere, it seems as though full-back is amongst Manchester United’s strongest areas.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka has shown his brilliance, while Brandon Williams continues to develop, as does Diogo Dalot. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is looking to make his mark on this squad, making a few changes (both in and out) with each passing transfer window.

Well, according to ESPN, one player who could be on his way out sooner rather than later is Ashley Young. The versatile United star ‘expects’ to leave the Red Devils next summer. Furthermore, he’s already ready to talk to other clubs in January – presumably about the possibility of signing a pre-contractual agreement…

With just six months left on his contract, Young will depart on a free transfer after spending nine years at Old Trafford.

Young will be 35 next summer which is probably the biggest reason as to why he’ll be allowed to leave. His ability to play, and play well in several positions has always been the Englishman’s biggest selling point, though sooner or later his legs were always going to catch up with him.

We’ve seen the veteran slowly phased out of the United starting line-up under Solskjaer which definitely makes sense – however, the positive impact he makes in the dressing room will be a massive loss.

All-in-all, it does make sense to make room for a younger player who can be that utility man, though I am quite sad to see Youngy leave.
