Manchester United were linked with Atletico Madrid centre-back Diego Godin earlier in the week, but today their manager, Diego Simeone, has quashed that rumour and is adamant that the experienced centre-back isn’t going anywhere. The 28-year old has had an excellent year under Simeone, and the boss has made it clear he wants to keep hold of Godin.
The Uruguay international would’ve been perfect for Manchester United. He’s experienced, tall and very strong – plus he chips in with the odd goal too. He would’ve brought that calmness and organisation that every good team requires, and he wouldn’t have cost an awful either.
My number one choice would still be Mats Hummels. Dortmund are having a torrid time of it at the moment, and if they remain in the relegation zone for much longer, it could persuade some of their big stars to move away from the Westfalenstadion and switch Germany for England.
