Manchester United and Antoine Griezmann already feels like the saga of the summer, and the window doesn’t officially open until next week. Yesterday, we learned that the Red Devils’ interest in the Frenchman had cooled and now, we’ve got another vital piece of information.
It comes from English media outlet, the Daily Mirror. They say that in the wake of their transfer ban being upheld, Atletico are planning to offer Griezmann a bumper new contract, whilst upping the 26-year-old’s release clause in order to keep him at their club.
As you’d imagine, Madrid would obviously love to keep such a talented player on their books, particularly as they cannot sign any new players over the next twelve months.
The bunch they have is literally what they’ll go into the new season with, and if they were to lose their talisman whilst being unable to replace him, that’d certainly make their task so much harder.
I’m of the opinion that if United were that desperate to sign the player then the release clause would have already been activated. Right now, it feels to me like although Griezmann is a target, he is not of top priority. For some reason, I get the feeling that this transfer will rumble on for quite some time yet…
