Axel Tuanzebe set to join Napoli on loan: report

Axel Tuanzebe is looking likely to be heading to Napoli for the remainder of the season.

Manchester United Football Club are heading in a different direction under Ralf Rangnick. Will new signings be made this January? Who knows…

However, with that dressing room looking pretty jam-packed, it always felt likely that at least one or two faces who aren’t in Rangnick’s plans could be moved on.

Axel Tuanzebe seems to fit that bill – at least in the short-term. The defender looks like someone who cold potentially make an impact at United in future. For right now, he’s going to be playing his football elsewhere.

The story comes from Fabrizio Romano, who claims that a deal has been agreed for the 37-appearance United star to move away on loan. He’ll apparently head to Roma after paperwork has been signed, with a medical set to take place shortly after:

United have accepted a £420,000 offer from the Serie A outfit, which will see Tuanzebe play his football in Italy between now and June.

This feels like the ideal step up for Tuanzebe. The young centre-half has been chomping at the bit for regular starts at a top club. Hopefully, Napoli can offer him that chance.

It was always going to be tough for Tuanzebe to start week-in-week-out at Old Trafford this term after the arrival of Raphael Varane. But if he can go to Naples and impress, there’s every chance he’ll be firmly in Rangnick’s plans next season.

As is always the case with these loan moves, it’s about the minutes. It’ll only be a success for player and club if Tuanzebe can prove his worth and force his way into the start XI. If that doesn’t happen, he may as well have stayed in Manchester and continued to develop as a player here at United.
