Axel Tuanzebe has been told it’s time to leave Man United.
Manchester United’s centre-back situation is an interesting one. Outside of Harry Maguire, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has no defenders he can genuinely trust to get the job done.
It’s widely expected that the Old Trafford club will sign a new central defender this summer, though as of now, we’ve heard nothing concrete on that front.
Not too long ago, Axel Tuanzebe was widely considered as someone who could take up a starting role and make that job his own for the next decade. However, injuries coupled with mixed performances have left his future at Old Trafford up in the air.
Now, ex-Premier League striker Kevin Campbell has told Tuanzebe ‘it’s time to go’, urging the star with 37 Reds appearances under his name to leave the club…
“It’s time to go. He needs to go and play football. These young men at the mega clubs are just playing sparingly and they need to go out and play,” Campbell told Football Insider.
“Tuanzebe is a great player and he deserves to be playing regular football.
“I think he would get game time at Aston Villa. When he was on loan there they really liked him. It is time.”
Obviously, Tuanzebe spent some time with Villa on loan a year or so ago and he was key to their Premier League promotion. The 23-year-old is mega-talented and highly thought of by Villa boss Dean Smith.
The question is, what does Solskjaer plan to do with Tuanzebe? If the United academy graduate is firmly in the Baby Faced Assassin’s plans, then another loan move to Villa may well be good for his development.
However, I do wonder whether the time is now to cash in on Tuanzebe and let him leave for good. Say United do sign a new centre-half this summer, where does that leave Tuanzebe in 12 months time if he does come back to United? I just don’t see where he’ll slot back in…
Perhaps it’s best to get whatever transfer fee you can now for Tuanzebe and add in some sort of buy-back clause into his contract just in case he does take his game to that next level?
