According to Fabrizio Romano, both Eric Bailly and Man United are set to leave the Red Devils this summer.
I’m pleasantly surprised to see how quick Manchester United are getting their business done this summer – in terms of clearing out the dead-wood.
The likes of Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, Nemanja Matic and many more have been let go on free transfers. We always assumed that others would be sold, following the free agents out the door.
Well, we’re starting to see the first examples of that. Erik ten Hag is ruthlessly overhauling this United squad from top to bottom.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the defensive duo of Eric Bailly Alex Tuanzebe are ‘set to leave’ United this summer, with that decision already made.
Romano also adds that Wan-Bissaka has opportunities to leave, too, but he’s waiting to see what other offers come his way after being deemed surplus to requirements.
Again, this is all money being freed up in terms of weekly wages. Getting players who have barely seen the field off the books is the best way to create space for new signings to be made.
Bailly’s time at United started wonderfully, though things have faded out quickly – most notably due to persistent injuries. The Ivory Coast international has barely been able to stay fit for multiple games in a row and right now, he’s just a wasted spot in the squad.
Tuanzebe’s situation is a little different. We all know his capabilities, just look at how he locked down Kylian Mbappe in the Champions League eighteen months or so ago. However, he’s blown hot and cold during his very minimal on-field minutes. I personally would have liked to have seen a little bit more of the centre-half before this decision was made, but I do understand why he’s being let go.
Wan-Bissaka is probably going to fetch the biggest transfer fee. He’s still young and United will look to recoup as much of the £50million they paid to sign him.
