Manchester United Football Club have made some brilliant signings this summer, with Jose Mourinho bringing in Romelu Lukaku and Nemanja Matic; both of whom have already made a big impact. However, that marquee signing has remained elusive thus far.
Sky Sports News’ Spanish correspondent Guillem Balague has spoken, and he reckons that Red Devils fans may have to wait until next summer to get that big name in – Antoine Griezmann.
The French star was heavily linked with an Old Trafford switch earlier on in the window, but for one reason or another, that deal didn’t happen.
Now Balague says that Griezmann will consider a move to the Theatre of Dreams in the summer of 2018.
“He is with a team which has played in Champions League finals and also won the league recently – more recently than Manchester United – so he is already at one of the top teams in Europe.” Balague told Sky Sports, as per the Daily Star.
“He is playing with the fans and he will continue to do that with teasing messages but it is quite clear he will consider a move to Old Trafford next summer.
“This summer it’s impossible but next summer, who knows?
“Quite clearly, he was determined to go to Manchester United and it’s just the fact he didn’t want to let Atletico Madrid down while they couldn’t sign anyone that made him decide to stay.
“He had made his mind up to go to Old Trafford though, so we will see what happens as 12 months is a long time.”
Like he says, a lot can happen in a year and situations may change. Who’s to say that United will still have an interest in him?
With that said, you cannot doubt Griezmann’s talent. This is a world-class individual who has proven himself capable of turning it on at the highest level.
Any team would be better with a player like him in their side, and the prospect of him in a front four alongside Romelu Lukaku, Anthony Martial and Henrikh Mkhitaryan is a mouthwatering one.
