Gareth Bale could be a Manchester United player in the not too distant future, if an exclusive from The Sun on Sunday turns out to be true.
Apparently, the 30-year-old superstar could move to United as early as January, with his current club, Real Madrid, convinced Bale will move to Old Trafford next summer (if the January deal doesn’t go through).
Bale’s place at the Santiago Bernabeu has been in doubt ever since Zinedine Zidane moved back to the Spanish capital. During the summer, the Welshman came ever so close to sealing a big-money move to China – though Real Madrid pulled the plug at the last moment.
United were keen on a deal at that time and The Sun say their interest hasn’t changed – with the player understandably ready to call time on his career in La Liga.
Furthermore, his £650,000-a-week wage would see a significant drop, though the player does think there would be some commercial value in sealing an Old Trafford switch.
For the Red Devils, this would be a huge risk. This is a player who’d cost an awful lot in terms of both transfer fee and weekly wage, while his injury record isn’t the greatest.
Personally, I’d like to see United pass up on this one. Let’s be honest, signing marquee names hasn’t worked out well of late, while opting for young up-and-comers has. As the old saying goes, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it…
