Manchester United Football Club have reportedly cooled their interest in Antoine Griezmann. That’s according to the BBC, who say the 26-year-old from Atletico Madrid is no longer a priority transfer target.
United were keen on signing the talented attacker, but after an injury to Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Mourinho has chosen to look at acquiring a striker instead of the Frenchman, who predominantly was being eyed up as a #10.
The report says that no decision has been made on the future of Ibrahimovic, although it is unlikely that we’ll see the #9 take to the field before January – by which point he’ll be well on the way towards his 37th birthday.
Honestly, if this is the case I’m genuinely disappointed. Griezmann has proven that he can play as a striker, and for me, I would see it as a like-for-like replacement. To see us taking such a gamble on Ibrahimovic is a shame, particularly when you consider that an injury like this is always going to be tough to come back from.
With that said, we have to trust in the boss. He must have targets that he and his team have scouted extensively. Who knows who they are? In my opinion, I’d like to see Kylian Mbappe come in, but any deal for him would probably cost more, and be more drawn out deal than that of Griezmann.
