BBC: Man United increasingly confident David de Gea will sign new contract

Manchester United are increasingly confident that superstar goalkeeper, David de Gea, will sign a new contract at the club according to the BBC.

Apparently, talks resumed earlier this month and officials believe De Gea will commit to United long-term when they return from their tour of Australia and Asia.

With the Spaniard now into the final year of his deal, it’s vital to get a new contract all signed and sealed before the season starts as we don’t want whispers about his future still rumbling on in the thick of the action – we saw how much that affected him toward the end of the 2018/19 campaign.

Make no mistake about it, De Gea is still amongst the best in the business. We’re lucky to call him ours, we’re lucky (provided the deal gets done) that he’ll be here for another few years yet.

It just gives Ole Gunnar Solskjaer one less problem to worry about. Having a top-class goalkeeper can save you so many points over the course of a long season, and with United looking to strengthen their defence this summer, we’re definitely moving in the right direction.

After new deals for Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, Axel Tuanzebe and others over the last six or so months, United have done well to tie down their key players to new deals despite on-field struggles – so let’s hope that continues.
