Man United have added Benni McCarthy to their coaching staff.
As we gear up towards the start of the campaign, Erik ten Hag continues to mould this club into one that fits his image.
Today, a story from The Athletic claims that a lifelong United fan has been added to the coaching staff; Benni McCarthy.
McCarthy, who has previous Premier League experience with Blackburn Rovers, has been working as a coach since retiring from the game. Now, aged 44, he’s set to join the club he has followed all his life as their first-team striker’s coach.
The ex-forward, who speaks four languages, has recently been working with Cape Town City and Amazulu in South Africa’s top division. Now, he’s set to join Ten Hag at Old Trafford.

In 2021, McCarthy was named South African Premier League Coach of the Year, resulting in him being offered the South African national team job. An offer which he would eventually turn down.
Now, the 44-year-old moves back to a country he knows well. Obviously, a big factor in making the switch to England is the fact he will work for the club he has been a fan of. That lure may have just been too good to turn down.
Obviously, McCarthy played football at a very decent level. However, he appears to be an even better coach than he was a player. He will now get the opportunity to work with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford on a regular basis. What an honour that must be for him.
Welcome to the biggest club in the world, Benni!
