Betting Preview: Manchester United vs Burton Albion (Carabao Cup)

Manchester United’s defence of the newly renamed Carabao Cup begins on Wednesday night, when Jose Mourinho’s men host Championship side, Burton Albion. The Red Devils will be in buoyant mood, following the 4-0 demolition of Everton in the Premier League over the weekend.

Ahead of the Carabao Cup third round clash tonight, we’ve decided to trawl the web and find the best betting markets around. Whilst we’re on the subject of it, check out some Premier League betting offers.

Manchester United vs Burton Albion Betting Tips

As they are for any home fixture, Manchester United are heavy favourites (as short as 1/12 on with some bookies). If you fancy a cupset, Burton are a huge 33/1.

In these types of matches, I’ve always been a fan of the first goalscorer market. Anthony Martial is a lovely 5/2 to find the back of the net first, and I personally expect the French starlet to get the nod. A good outside shot could be Jesse Lingard at 5/1.

All being well, this should be a high-scoring affair, and the odds of 4/6 for over 3.5 goals is appealing to me. Manchester United will want to send out a message as they look to retain this trophy, and Burton Albion could be, and should be on the wrong end of an absolute thumping at the Theatre of Dreams. I also like the look of the Red Devils to win by 3 or more goals which fetches odds of 4/7,

Of course, during games like these, the bookmakers odds are always going to be so heavily favoured in Manchester United’s direction. However, we’re no strangers to poor performances in the early rounds of these types of situations. Cast your mind back a couple of years when Louis van Gaal’s team got absolutely hammered 4-0 by MK Dons. Hopefully, Mourinho has the lads prepared and they are ready to go out there and do a proper job.
