Blow as key Man United star admits club aren’t meeting wage demands

Manchester United take on FC Barcelona in the Champions League tomorrow evening, as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer prepares for his toughest test as Red Devils boss.

Before the game, however, the Spanish media are talking about something other than what is about to unfold on the pitch. The player they’re discussing is Ander Herrera, who in an interview with Spanish media outlet ABC, has confirmed that United ‘aren’t thinking the same’ in terms of his wage demands on a new contract.

With only two months left on his current contract, Herrera could leave Old Trafford for free when this season comes to an end, although the 29-year-old has admitted that he will continue to listen to what United has to say…

“It’s true that I only have two months on my contract left, and today, Manchester (United) and I aren’t thinking the same and there is no renewal agreement, but my duty is to keep listening to United.”  Herrera told ABC, via Sport Witness.

“What I have clear is that I’m going to continue playing in a big team… I will listen to United, of course, but also to other clubs. I do not close doors.”

First and foremost, the timing of this couldn’t be any worse. United are trying to prepare for a massive fixture which requires every single bit of attention. Does the dressing room really need distractions like this?

Secondly, Herrera has always tried to portray his love and admiration for United in the media. In this case, it seems as though money is his number one thought, not playing for the Red Devils. That’s disappointing.

United shouldn’t bow down to the demands of any player. If we’re being honest here, Herrera certainly isn’t replaceable. That’s not to say he’s a bad player, I obviously would prefer him to stay, but the club shouldn’t be bending over backwards to keep him.

Likewise, if Herrera has a better offer on the table then fair play to him.
