Board won’t give Mourinho money to spend in January because of one key reason: report

The Manchester United board certainly kept their money in their pockets far more than Jose Mourinho would have liked over the summer.

Now, The Independent (h/t The Daily Express) believe they know why… They claim that Edward Woodward and company refused to give the self-proclaimed Special One more money is due to his failed signings.

United are pointing to big-money moves for Fred, Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof which have failed to work out so far. When you also factor in moves for an ageing Nemanja Matic, an average Romelu Lukaku and a struggling Alexis Sanchez, you sort of understand why…

I think its certainly fair to say that Mourinho hasn’t spent wisely. Sure, Bailly and Lindelof has potential, as does Lukaku, but they’re nowhere near close to the finished article at this point.

The Red Devils should be demanding players who can come in and make an immediate impact. As of right now, we’re really yet to see that. I think it’s damning for Fred that, he didn’t even get on the field over the last few games despite Matic’s poor performances and Paul Pogba being injured… It’s early days, but it already feels like curtains for him which is just astonishing really…
