Brandon Williams is open to leaving Man United on loan this month.
Manchester United are moving in the right direction under Erik ten Hag, that much is obvious, though there’s plenty of work still to do in regards to the playing squad.
The Old Trafford club have several fringe players who just aren’t good enough/or playing regularly. Brandon Williams falls into the latter category.
The Englishman, born in Manchester, was amongst Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s favourite players when the Norwegian was in charge. However, a loan move to Norwich has since followed, coupled with a serious lack of playing time this term.
Williams has turned into the forgotten man at the AON Training Complex through no fault of his own, making just one appearance since May 2021.
Now, according to the Manchester Evening News, the 22-year-old is open to leaving United on loan this month, in search of regular playing time.
The full-back missed the first few months of this term with injury, coming into the winter months without any football under his belt. The 2022/23 season was always going to be an uphill struggle at United, particularly with the way both Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia are playing.
Williams is at that career crossroads where he has a very real decision to make on his future. Either stick it out at United, or look for a permanent move away. His current contract runs until 2024, so United are also approaching that time when a tough choice may have to be made.
In the meantime, a loan move away is good for the player. He needs to get those minutes under the belt in order to prove to Ten Hag that he can perform at the highest level.
