Brazil icon Ronaldinho reveals admiration for Manchester United key man

Manchester United Football Club are a team draped in rich history and traditions, and that is a legacy Jose Mourinho is obviously keen on carrying on. The self-proclaimed Special One is seemingly getting the right tune out of his current stars, and the Reds are still battling it out in four competitions.

One key player on his books who has been in the headlines recently is Wayne Rooney, as the 31-year-old recently broken Manchester United’s longstanding top goalscorer record – surpassing Sir Bobby Charlton.

The plaudits have been coming in thick and fast for the current United captain, and next to praise ‘Wazza’ is none other than Brazil legend and footballing icon, Ronaldinho.

“Among the English, I still like Wayne Rooney,” Ronaldinho tells FourFourTwo in an interview. “He has skill, shoots well and protects the ball. He is steady – never on the ground. I have always liked his style.”

This is certainly high praise indeed, coming from one of the greatest footballers to ever grace the turf in recent years. Ronaldinho has always been a player that I’ve personally admired purely because of his trickery and cleverness.

The things he says about Wayne Rooney are true, too. The Three Lions captain is one of the cleanest strikers of a football we’ve ever seen, and due to his build and physicality, he does protect the ball well.

Over recent months, the fact that he has become more of a squad player seems to have made him hungrier to perform well when he gets the chances, and after a slow start to the current campaign, he looks to be doing exactly that.
