Manchester United suffered arguably their worst loss post-Sir Alex Ferguson this weekend. At times, Brighton & Hove Albion toyed with the Red Devils.
It was a display of real immaturity throughout, with each player, to a man, struggling to make a positive impact.
Although we’ve seen those displays all-too-often over the last few years, Brighton defender Leon Balogun has stuck the knife in, taking a jibe at the Red Devils slow style. The defender admitted that he thought the visitors would play at a faster pace, which obviously never came.
When asked about whether he expected a sharper tempo, Balogun responded:
“Some of the lads have just asked me that too and I said I had expected the Premier League to be quicker, but they told me this is always the kind of game you play against United,” the Nigeria defender Balogun said, per The Guardian.
“They like to slow it down a little bit sometimes. Liverpool is going to be completely different. I know how [Jürgen] Klopp likes to play. It’s going to be a lot quicker and a lot more intense.”
Something just isn’t right. When Brighton are finding it easy to play against us, there is a clear problem. Whether that’s down to the manager, the board, players, or all of the above remains to be seen.
This issue is certainly bigger than just one man, though. There are a whole host of issues protruding through the squad right now. The bad news is that it’s probably too much work to undertake in one go. The long road back to the top of the Premier League starts now.
