Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro have been named in a Europa League Team of the Week following Man United’s 1-0 win vs Omonia.
Manchester United absolutely left it late to beat Omonia last night, with the winner coming deep into injury time courtesy of Scott McTominay.
The game itself was certainly intriguing. United were always the side in the ascendency, though they just couldn’t stick the ball in the back of the net. Large credit has to go to the Omonia goalkeeper for that. He was truly brilliant.
What I liked most about United was the fact that the Red Devils never gave up and kept plugging away. Having that sort of attitude can only serve the whole squad well, although it would have been better for the nerves if the Reds won 5-0 instead!
Jokes aside, three points is three points. For their performances, a United duo was named in Sofascore’s statistical Team of the Week – though it’s not really who I expected. Both Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro were named, given an 8.3 and 8.3 rating respectively.

Let’s start with Casemiro. The midfielder had a solid, but unspectacular game. He mopped up when Omonia were looking to break and kept it simple with the ball at feet. He also did test the keeper with a long range effort that was tipped over.
As for Bruno Fernandes, he was decent vs Omonia, but nothing more. I get that he worked hard and led United’s pressing game, but his passing was often sloppy and off the mark. I’m honestly not sure if he deserved to be rated so highly, though it does show that stats can be misleading at times.
Either way, this is a nice confidence-booster for these lads going into an important part of our season.
