Bruno Fernandes deals Man United suspension blow ahead of Burnley game

Man United will have to cope without Bruno Fernandes on Thursday, when the Reds host Burnley.

Ralf Rangnick will now know just how big of a task he has on his hands to get this squad playing a high pressing game.

The match against Newcastle United was truly awful, despite the lads having sixteen weeks off in between fixtures.

During the game, United’s frustrations would come to the boil, with the Reds being dealt a suspension blow for their next match against Burnley.

Bruno Fernandes would pick up a pretty unnecessary booking for whinging at the referee in the second half. United will now be without their key star for one match – putting his team in a deeper hole for that one at Old Trafford in a couple of days time.

The form of our Portuguese Magnifico has been mightily concerning of late. He doesn’t look anything close to the player who produces goals and assists galore every single week.

Personally, I’d put it somewhat down to the change in formation. Bruno was one of the best in the business in that number ten role, which is why I’m shocked he’s been pushed out wider in this new system.

Rangnick is banking on Bruno being able to adapt quickly but as things stand, that hasn’t happened.

On the plus side, this means that Bruno will be feeling much better in terms of freshness when United take on Wolves on January third. He’s now got the best part of a week in between fixtures, so there’s a small silver lining here.

In terms of replacements, I’d like to see how Donny van de Beek gets on in this system. This feels like the opportune moment to see what the former Ajax man can do.

Do you think a formation change could help Bruno get back to his best? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below.
