Bruno Fernandes has lauded his new teammate Raphael Varane.
Manchester United’s summer transfer window was their best in a while. Adding attacking quality like Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo is massive. However, Raphael Varane was arguably our most important piece of business.
For so long, the Red Devils have been consistently inconsistent at the back. Even last season, both Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire had their moments of madness. We’ve been crying out for that Mr Reliable. It finally feels like we have that player.
As soon as Varane walked through the door, there was a calmness about our whole defence. He does everything in a relaxed, composed manner and that’s already rubbing off on his teammates.
One of the guys within the dressing room who has been particularly impressed with Varane is Bruno Fernandes. Our Portuguese Magnifico was full of praise for United’s new star in a recent interview. You absolutely love to see it.

“Rapha is really important for us, and has been really important for us.” Bruno told ManUtd.com.
“But the main point is everyone being okay to do the best that they can. In football, we all have different qualities, and Rapha has different qualities to Victor, H, Eric and Phil, but they can all add different things.”
Quality recognises quality, right? Bruno knows just how vital Varane is to this side and as the season goes on, our French centre-half will only become even better.
His position is all about partnerships. Varane and Maguire have to build that telepathic connection and that just doesn’t happen overnight. It takes time.
I think we all thought Varane was good. But this good? Wow. I’ve been way more impressed than I imagined I would be. He’s so similar to Rio Ferdinand in both quality and style of play – and I don’t say that lightly.
We’re just so lucky to have him. The best part about it is that Varane seems to be loving being here at the club he supported as a young boy, too. Now, it’s up to us to not waste his prime years and build a team that is capable of going all the way in both Europe and the Premier League.
