Man United are sweating on the fitness of Bruno Fernandes for this weekend…
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be feeling under pressure. What better way to put that right than going head-to-head with the old enemy Liverpool?
It goes without saying, this game is going to be a huge struggle. There’s no getting away from that. Yesterday, there were whispers suggesting that a certain Bruno Fernandes may miss this one due to an injury issue.
Well, those fears have since been confirmed by manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The gaffer would confirm that Bruno ‘might be a doubt’, leaving United with a major injury concern, while he sweats on the fitness of his key star.
There’s also a doubt about midfielder Fred, who picked up a hamstring issue against Atalanta.
Check out what the gaffer had to say here:
“Games like Wednesday will always bring knocks and bruises,” Ole told the media, including ManUtd.com. “We have two or three with knocks but I hope I can pick from a fit squad. Bruno might be a doubt but he’s doing everything he can to be fit.
“I can’t say if Fred will be fit or not. We might have the whole squad fit but may miss two or three. We’ll see.”
Obviously, Bruno is the major concern, but if Solskjaer goes into this one without two of his three first-choice midfielders, that’s a massive part of our first XI.
Fernandes’ impact since making the move to Manchester has been there for all to see. The Portugal international has contributed more goals and assists than anyone in the country – while becoming such an influential leader on the field.
He showed that even when not playing at his best, he can come up with the goods vs Atalanta. That pass into Marcus Rashford for our first goal was absolutely world-class. Before that moment, he was seriously struggling to get a grip on the game.
Without him, it’d probably mean Paul Pogba shifting back into that attacking midfield role. Either that or we could actually see Donny van de Beek get his chance. What better way to show the world your capabilities by playing well against Liverpool?
All that said, we’re praying Bruno is fit enough to start.
