Bruno Fernandes has been named in WhoScored’s Champions League Team of the Group Stage.
Well, it all started so brightly for Manchester United. In the end, though, we’d all be left disappointed. The Red Devils would lose their last two games against Paris Saint-Germain and RB Leipzig, but it was the devastating 2-1 defeat to Istanbul Basaksehir which would cost us our place in the Champions League knockout round.
Looking back and reflecting on it, we were third seed in this group for a reason. We were the third-best team out of the four. Yes, it was disappointing to bow out in that fashion, but it was always going to be an uphill battle for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and this squad.
As per usual, there was one standout player from a Red Devils perspective. There was absolutely no surprise in regards to who that player was, either…
Yes, it was Bruno Fernandes as per usual. In fact, he was the sole United player named in WhoScored’s Champions League Team of the Group Stage, with a 7.49 rating.

It’s no surprise to learn that Bruno Fernandes is reportedly in line for a new contract here in Manchester. Our Portuguese Magnifico hasn’t even been here for a year yet, though bigger wages is the least he deserves.
You look at Fernandes’ name up there with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Erling Haaland. He absolutely deserves to be mentioned in the same breath as those world-class individuals.
If I’m being petty, Rashford could probably have forced his way into the team some-way, some-how. After all, he’s the leading scorer in the competition with five goals. Surely that deserves a spot?
Anyway for now, congratulations Bruno!
