Man United announced an agreement was in place to sign Raphael Varane. Now, Bruno Fernandes has sent a welcome message.
Well, Manchester United seem to be closing in on their man. The Red Devils officially confirmed a move for Raphael Varane last night, pending a medical.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer seemingly has his man to partner Harry Maguire at centre-half, as United’s issues definitely stemmed from the defensive side of the ball last term.
It always felt like Varane was the number one target, while his winding down contract at Real Madrid offered plenty of hope. Now, we know the Frenchman wanted United just as much as they wanted him – which is always important.
After making his return to training yesterday, Bruno Fernandes found the time to send a quick message to Varane on social media, admitting it was a fantastic way to finish the day! We agree, Bruno!
Honestly, if Varane has the sort of impact that we think he will do, then this signing cannot be understated. Bruno knows that more than most as all he wants to do is win trophies.
Our Achilles heel last season was defensive set pieces and Varane will bring a wealth of experience to an area of our game that genuinely needs it. If we can tighten up there, keep up the high performance levels from our attacking players, we’ll have a really good shot at lining the trophy cabinet come next May.
I guess now it’s all about waiting for this deal to become officially official. We may be waiting a few days yet due to quarantine rules as Varane looks to enter the United Kingdom. Hopefully, he can undergo his medical in the not too distant future and start working with his new teammates at the AON Training Complex.
