Bruno Fernandes believes David de Gea would be a worthy Player of the Month winner for October.
Manchester United’s October was very hit and miss. There were some great results against Atalanta and Tottenham Hotspur, though we cannot get away from the tough losses to Liverpool and Aston Villa.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad look like they’re still playing for their manager. However, there’s much work ahead for the Baby Faced Assassin.
Picking any standout performers throughout the month of October is incredibly tough for obvious reasons. Marcus Rashford and Cristiano Ronaldo lead the way in terms of nominees.
However, Bruno has tipped someone else to win it, in the form of 30-year-old David de Gea. When you think about it, it’s hard to disagree with our Portuguese Magnifico here.
Check out what Bruno had to say about De Gea here:
“It’s difficult because Cristiano has been scoring goals, important goals, Rashy, the same. David has conceded goals so it’s difficult but if it wasn’t for David, we would have conceded many more. For what he has done in the last month and has been doing since the start of the season I think he deserves it.” Bruno told ManUtd.com in an exclusive interview.
“But obviously, we know the power of people who score goals, so, if I would vote, I would vote for David this time. As I said, it’s a difficult one because Cristiano has scored important goals and Rashy. It’s hard for the fans [to vote], but my vote is for David.”
This absolutely feels like the United of old, playing poorly with De Gea saving our bacon on more than one occasion.
Our superstar Spaniard is absolutely back to his best this term, making unreal saves, game-in-game-out, pulling his teammates through when they need him the most.
There’s absolutely no doubt that De Gea is benefitting from the increased pressure placed upon him by Dean Henderson. The Englishman is waiting in the wings and pushing hard for that starting berth. It has spurred De Gea on to even greater levels.
I still firmly believe Henderson is the future, but having two top-performing goalkeepers is huge. Solskjaer has a real luxury in that position that if someone is injured or suspended, the other can step in and do an equally-excellent job.
For me, I’d back De Gea to win this award. It’d be his first in a while and he’d absolutely deserve it.
