Manchester United have eight players remaining in the World Cup last eight. Considering only five have exited to date, it’s fair to say the Red Devils are having themselves an excellent tournament so far.
before David de Gea’s unlikely exit with Spain, I think it’s fair to say that Paul Pogba was always United’s best hope at winning the biggest tournament on the international scene.
After an excellent last sixteen outing against Argentina, Les Bleus certainly seems to be the pick of the bunch; with Pogba at the heart of everything good about their play.
The 24-year-old midfielder scored the winning goal against Australia in their first outing, and since then, he’s gone from strength-to-strength. Pace, power, precision. He’s executing perfectly, and it’s nice to see him finally being able to let the shackles off and do what he does best.
Those marauding runs from deep has left several opponents in his wake, those stunning long-balls have split open defences with consummate ease. Next up, Pogba faces his hardest challenge to date. Uruguay have the best defence in the tournament. Opening up Diego Godin and Jose Giminez will not be easy.
If you fancy Pogba to do that, you can get odds of 1.4/1 for France to qualify and make it into the final four. If Didier Deschamps’ men stand any chance, the Manchester United midfielder will have to be at his brilliant best, alongside Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante, with superstars including Antoine Griezmann and Kylian Mbappe in front of him.
All the pieces are in place for the ex-Juventus man to succeed. Now, it’s down to him to go out there and perform when the lights are at their brightest.
