Carlo Ancelotti emerges as short-term option for Man United: report

Carlo Ancelotti has now appeared as a potential candidate to become Man United manager in a short-term deal.

Manchester United are no doubt doing plenty of homework behind the scenes in their hunt for a new manager. I’d also imagine Ralf Rangnick, who is staying on in a consultancy role after this season, is involved in those discussions.

We’re now in March with just a few months left of the season. You’d expect rumours to ramp up as we edge closer and closer to what is a huge summer for the Old Trafford club.

Now, according to ESPN, a new name has been thrown into the mix; Carlo Ancelotti.

The Italian has managed several top tier teams during his illustrious managerial career, with the Reds now looking at him as a possible option.

Apparently, the 62-year-old manager has emerged as a ‘surprise’ short-term option for United, as the club look to explore ‘contingency plans’ in their hunt for a new boss.

Ancelotti has a close personal relationship with Sir Alex Ferguson, with United CEO, Richard Arnold, seeking advice from the Scot in regards to the Italian.

United are hopeful of making a long-term appointment, with Ferguson a massive admirer of Mauricio Pochettino. However, in the event that the right candidate doesn’t appear, Ancelotti is viewed as someone who could enjoy success in the short-term due to his vast experience.

Honestly, I have no problem with United ensuring every single base is covered. However, in an ideal world, a long-term hire will be made. I don’t like the idea of being back at square one in another year, once again changing the system, tactics and setup at Old Trafford. At the highest level, consistency is key and the sooner we find our man, the better.
