Manchester United’s season has just two games left in it. We’re approaching that time of the year when individual players are awarded for their brilliance. One man who has always shone for the Old Trafford club is David de Gea; everybody’s favourite Spanish goalkeeper.
This is a man who has won the last three Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year awards at the Theatre of Dreams, which goes to show just how brilliant the 26-year-old is.
Now, he has received very high praise from somewhat of an unlikely source. Sky Sports’ Jamie Carragher included the United man in his Premier League Team of the Season, before claiming that he’s ‘probably the best goalkeeper in the world’.
“I’ve gone for De Gea [in my team of the season].“ Carragher told Sky Sports viewers, as per The Sport Review.
“I still think he’s the best in the Premier League. He’s probably the best goalkeeper in the world. It’s close with him and Manuel Neuer. I think he’s probably better.”
Alright, now us United fans are probably slightly biased but Carragher is absolutely spot on. I genuinely wouldn’t swap De Gea for any other goalkeeper on the planet, and we’re truly lucky to have had him for so long.
I guess that we all know he will move away eventually, probably to Real Madrid, but the longer we can keep him here, the better. Some of the saves he makes are just absolutely outrageous. I’ve never seen anyone better in the one-on-one situation, and every year, his presence from corners and set-pieces is growing and improving.
