Casemiro given number 18 shirt at Man United

Man United have confirmed that Casemiro will wear the number 18 shirt at the club.

Manchester United’s fourth signing of the summer is perhaps the most important one so far. Casemiro has joined from Real Madrid, in a mega-money deal.

The Brazil international has been brought in to solidify the base of midfield – a problem area for the Old Trafford club over the last few years.

Casemiro is absolutely the best in the business in that regard. Hopefully, he’ll bring some stability, steadiness and a winning mentality.

Anyway, ahead of a potential debut tomorrow, Casemiro’s shirt number has been confirmed by United. He will wear the number 18 jersey, previously worn by icon Paul Scholes.

Casemiro has spoken openly about Scholes being the United player he idolised and somewhat modelled his game on. So it was probably a no-brainer for him to take this number when he found out it was available.

Although Casemiro and Scholes are different kind of players, there’s parts of Scholes’ game that you can see on full display – most notably when it comes to work rate and getting stuck in.

For us here at Old Trafford Faithful, this transfer still feels pretty surreal. I never thought there was a genuine possibility that United could actually get this deal done.

After all, Casemiro was leaving an incredible situation at Real Madrid, for a United who have had their own struggles of late. Putting it bluntly, I guess money talks.

Although United have spent big on Casemiro in terms of both transfer fee and contract, it was a necessary acquisition. Hopefully, the Brazil international can hit the ground running and really put in a positive display against Southampton tomorrow.

Do you think Casemiro will be a good signing for Man United? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below.

  1. Man.Utd very easily losing possession of the ball. This is now one weak point. See how long Southampton keep the ball.
