Manchester United’s newest signing, Casemiro, has confirmed he spoke to Fred before making the move to Old Trafford.
Casemiro is a Red Devil. The Brazil international comes to Manchester United with a huge reputation. Casemiro has a history of winning. He was an integral part of that Real Madrid side who won trophies galore over the last half-decade or so.
To lure him to the Theatre of Dreams is a pretty incredible coup. We have to be honest, United haven’t been anything close to their best of late. However, it’s good to know the ‘United’ name still has that pull. Obviously, huge wages over a long contract is the deal-sweetener.
Anyway, Casemiro is here now. We have to be delighted about that as he’s a massive upgrade on the midfield options currently at the club.
Upon joining, the 30-year-old has heaped the praise on one United teammate in particular, claiming that Fred ‘has a lot of qualities’. The pair have played together for Brazil on numerous occasions over the years. It’s a combination that has worked well on the international stage.
Now, Casemiro is looking to bring that partnership to the domestic scene – while helping United return to the very top of the English game as a result.
Check out what Casemiro had to say in full here:
“Well, before coming here, I spoke to Fred,” Casemiro told ManUtd.com. “He’s a friend who I’ve played alongside in the national team for a good number of games and years.
“I know him well. He’s a great player and that’s why he plays for Manchester United and for the Brazilian national team, which is difficult to get into. So, I have a special relationship with him and, of course, he’s a great player and that’s why he plays for Manchester United.
“Fred has a lot of qualities. I think he’s a player that has good movement. He’s very mobile, passes the ball well, he has a good shot on him, he can play with both feet, left or right, he can pass the ball well with either foot. He’s a great player.
“Again, that’s why he plays for Brazil and he’s a very important player at this club and I think he’ll help me a great deal as he’s Brazilian. I think he’ll help me a lot at the club and, without doubt, it’s important for me to have another Brazilian here, too.”
For us fans, Fred is someone who always leaves us confused. One game he looks like the greatest player on the turf, the next, he looks like someone who would struggle to play non-league football.
It’s that inconsistency which has absolutely killed Fred’s reputation amongst the terraces. Perhaps bringing his friend to the club will help him in terms of his confidence.
At the end of the day, whether we like it or not, Fred is going to start games regularly for United. If bringing in Casemiro helps the Brazilian take his game to that next level, then we all have to be pleased with that.
Either way, I’m just really excited to see how Casemiro gets on. Hopefully, he’s fit enough to start against Southampton this Saturday.
