Casemiro has suffered a recurrence of a hamstring problem, which has already kept the Brazil midfielder sidelined for two months this season.
In typical, Manchester United fashion, the Red Devils left it extraordinarily late to overcome Liverpool in the FA Cup on Sunday. It was a clash for the ages, with Erik ten Hag’s men deservedly coming out on top.
Credit where it’s due. I expected nothing from this game, particularly as the injuries continued to pile up for the Old Trafford side. Ahead of the fixture, we learnt that Casemiro was not going to be involved, after he pulled out of international duty with a fresh problem.
Now, the Manchester Evening News have provided the latest on the midfielder’s problem, confirming that this is a recurrence of a hamstring injury that kept the 32-year-old sidelined for a couple of months.
United have confirmed it’s a muscular injury, though at this moment, no time frame has been placed upon his return.
Dressing room sources have told the MEN that the Reds’ ‘intense’ demands and training sessions have contributed to the latest injury setback, which is obviously worrying. This is the 51st separate case of injury or illness within the United squad this season.
Whether the training sessions are proving too tough is one thing, you also have to remember that Case isn’t getting any younger. He’s 32 now. No longer can he start three games a week and perform at his peak level. It’s just not physically possible.
I still firmly believe United are a better side with the Brazilian in it. Let’s hope the injury problem isn’t too serious and the fact that he now has a fortnight off will certainly ease the tension on his body.
