Casemiro has come in for a lot of criticism this season, though he played well out of position against Sheffield United last night.
Manchester United managed to fight through a tough match against Sheffield United last night, eventually running out 4-2 winners. You can say what you like about the Red Devils, but they’re always entertaining!
Injuries meant another depleted squad was deployed by Erik ten Hag, with Casemiro once again starting at centre-half. The fact that United conceded two goals would initially lead you to believe it was a poor performance from the Brazil international.
However, that wasn’t the case. The former Real Madrid man looked calm and composed at the heart of defence, aided through the match by an in-form Harry Maguire.
Casemiro has actually performed pretty well back there during his two matches, which is credit to his all-round footballing ability and adaptability.
Statman Dave gave us the full run-down of Casemiro’s game from a statistical point of view via social media, which just backs up the fact that the experienced midfielder played well.
He completed 109 passes, won 100% of his aerial duels, made two interceptions and won three out of his four tackles. It was a top display from the out of position United star – and hopefully, that will continue through to the end of the campaign.

Ten Hag has already confirmed that they’ll be no centre-backs returning for the Burnley game this coming Saturday. Probably due to the quick turnaround times in between the matches, meaning Casemiro will likely continue back there this weekend.
You’d hope that with each passing game, Case becomes more used to playing in the centre-half position and as a result, the performance levels will increase. With the aforementioned Maguire sitting in there next to him, I actually feel somewhat confident in this back two.
Well played Case, and long may it continue!
