Man United’s fourth signing of the summer, Casemiro, is set to be given a ‘mythical’ shirt number at the club…
Erik ten Hag’s first summer transfer window in charge of Manchester United has been pretty disappointing. The Old Trafford club have failed in pursuit of many of the Dutchman’s top targets, with time rapidly running out to make new additions.
We’re now well into the final two weeks of the window. A fourth signing in the form of Casemiro is imminent, after a deal was agreed with Real Madrid to acquire the Brazilian.
Now, we’ve been given a further update on Casemiro, from Marca journalist, Mario Cotegana. He took to Twitter to share his information.
Apparently, Casemiro will be unveiled as a Man United player at Old Trafford tonight. Presumably to hype up the crowd for this huge rivalry match against Liverpool. The 30-year-old will not train with his new teammates until Thursday at the earliest, due to waiting on the necessary documents.
On top of that, Cortegana claims that Casemiro will be given the ‘mythical’ number 18 jersey at United, worn by the likes of Paul Scholes.
This is undoubtedly a major coup for the Old Trafford club. Casemiro represents a direct upgrade on the current midfielders available to Ten Hag. So we have to be pleased with the signing.
However, there’s also reason to be somewhat nervous. Casemiro is going to be earning mega money for the next four (maybe five) years. By this point, the Brazilian’s best days will be behind him. Will the Reds find themselves in another situation where they struggle to move on from a player earning massive money? It’s probable.
I guess for now we have to live in the moment. Casemiro is a world-class footballer. He’ll offer endless protection to a back four that absolutely needs it.
Hopefully, he’s ready to start against Southampton next weekend.
