Edinson Cavani and Harry Maguire were absent from Man United training this Thursday.
Manchester United football is back! It has been a long two weeks but we’re now just one day away from domestic football. I have to say, it feels good!
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s very public rant at the FA following the victory over Everton has been engrained in my mind for the last fortnight. There are obvious truths in what the Baby Faced Assassin is saying, too…
Players have been dropping like flies, including Luke Shaw, who’ll miss the next few weeks of football at the very least. Now, Solskjaer is left sweating on their fitness for the West Bromwich Albion fixture tomorrow.
According to the Manchester Evening News, the key duo of Edinson Cavani and Harry Maguire missed training on Thursday, as the majority of the squad reported back following international duty.
Maguire emerged as an injury doubt yesterday morning, while his absence from training only further fuels that fire. Apparently, he’s got some bruising on his foot.
Maybe the injuries aren’t what they seem…?
Perhaps it’s a case of Solskjaer giving his captain an extra day to heal up. Maybe Maguire’s injury is indeed more serious than we thought. Hopefully, we’ll be given clarity on this one during the Baby Faced Assassin’s pre-match press conference.
As for Cavani, he’s in a different situation. The striker would play for Uruguay on Tuesday night. Obviously, he’s halfway around the world and all the travelling will undoubtedly be taking its toll on his body. I would like to think that he’s just being given another day off, before hopefully returning to training today.
Whether Cavani will be able to start after all that travelling is another matter entirely. However, if Anthony Martial isn’t fit enough to play, the 33-year-old may well have to put his body on the line for the cause.
It just feels like some of these issues were totally avoidable. In hindsight, having an international break during the middle of a pandemic doesn’t seem like the smartest thing to do now, does it…?
Is Cavani and Maguire missing Man United training a long-term cause for concern? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below.
