Manchester United’s Champions League task just became a little harder. Both Edinson Cavani and Anthony Martial are set to miss RB Leipzig away with injury.

Red Devils fans were left perplexed when Edinson Cavani was substituted off at half-time against West Ham United. It’d all work out in the end and later, we’d learn the Uruguay superstar picked up a minor injury.

Anthony Martial’s problem was a little more obvious. He immediately signalled to be substituted while grabbing at his thigh about fifteen minutes into the second-half. Both were immediately labelled as doubtful for the trip to Germany.

Well, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer met the media earlier today and confirmed the double injury blow, with the key duo set to miss the all-important RB Leipzig game tomorrow night…

Check out what Ole had to say on Cavani & Martial both set to miss the Leipzig trip:

David is back again,” Ole told Manchester United directly.

“Luke will be travelling with us. Anthony and Edinson, they had minor things, but they won’t make the trip, no.“

So who comes into the team?

United’s lack of depth in attack makes Solskjaer’s choice relatively straightforward. The onus will fall on academy graduates Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood to bang in the goals.

As for the third attacker, we could either see Juan Mata or Daniel James given the nod. Another option is to change up the formation and deploy an extra midfielder, which seems like the most realistic solution.

In terms of timeframe for Cavani and Martial’s return, you’d hope the pair will be fit for the Manchester derby next weekend. At this stage, it’s probably touch-and-go as to whether they’ll be available.

During this season where games are coming thick and fast, injuries will always inevitable. I guess it’s about managing the squad as carefully as possible. It harps back to Solskjaer’s desire to add plenty of squad depth over the summer and right now, it’s certainly paying dividends…
