Just over a week ago, Manchester United went toe-to-toe with an in-form Chelsea side and came within seconds of snatching all three points.
Ross Barkley scored a late leveller to send the Stamford Bridge crowd mental, but their late heroics was ruined by one idiot; Marco Ianni. He decided to jump in front of the United bench, goading Jose Mourinho and others, before swiftly darting down the tunnel. This all occurred before the full-time whistle was even blown.
Now, the BBC report that Ianni has been hit with an improper conduct charge. He has been fined £6,000. Rightly so.
Mourinho said that Maurizio Sarri had apologised after the clash, which was duly accepted by the self-proclaimed Special One. You do have to say that the Italian handed the situation extremely classily and he deserves huge praise for that.
Honestly, the £6,000 fine probably isn’t going to hurt him too much, but it does send out a statement. Hopefully, Ianni has learned from his idiocy, but he keeps his job and continues to work for Chelsea. The last thing we want is people getting sacked due to a one-off mistake.
