Old Trafford has always been a hotbed of young, up-and-coming talent. It’s a mantra that has often served the Red Devils well, so why change that habit?
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has looked to continue that trend by giving ample minutes to Brandon Williams, Scott McTominay, Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood.
However, one player who continues to remain on the periphery is Angel Gomes. Now, it looks as though United are set to lose the superstar 19-year-old this summer.
The story comes from the Daily Mirror, who write that Premier League club Chelsea are ‘confident’ the free transfer will happen, with the club believing they are close to completing a deal.
Perhaps the biggest indicator that Gomes will be on his way out is the hiring of agent Pini Zahavi. Let’s be honest, he’s been employed to get a big-money deal for his new client away from Old Trafford.
Gomes is out of contract next month and The Mirror writes that the young man has already rejected a £30,000-a-week deal at United – which is huge money for a player who has only played a handful of games.
The article does make it clear that United haven’t given up hope at getting a deal done, though you have to be worried at this point.
I get it, leave for playing time, but to Chelsea? Really? They stockpile more young players than anyone and this doesn’t seem like a move made with regular first-team football at heart…
