Jose Mourinho has already completed one major signing, with Victor Lindelof making the move from SL Benfica to Manchester United. However, there is much work to be done if the Red Devils are to be turned into perennial title challengers once again.
The latest name to be linked with an Old Trafford move is none other than Chelsea’s Nemanja Matic, and according to The Sun, the Serbian wants a reunion with the self-proclaimed Special One this summer.
Matic fears that Conte wants him out of London this summer, and Mourinho obviously knows the player quite well so I wouldn’t be surprised to see a move for the 28-year-old come to fruition.
According to the report, Matic is on a list alongside Eric Dier as a potential midfield target, but for me, both of these guys would be underwhelming signings.
In the modern day game, mobility and the movement to cover the middle of the pitch is a necessity. Just look at how successful N’Golo Kante has been. Matic nor Dier offer that, and although they are probably better on the ball, whilst being superior to Kante positionally, I’d much prefer to bring in someone who’ll run themselves into the ground for the cause.
With that said, we have to trust Mourinho wholeheartedly. He made four signings last summer and all of those guys played a part in United winning two trophies. Until he proves us otherwise, he has my backing.
