Christian Eriksen has been given the number 14 jersey at Man United.
Manchester United have confirmed two signings this week.
First, Lisandro Martinez. Earlier today, we learned that he’d wear the number 6 jersey.
No less than a couple of hours later, Manchester United revealed the number their second signing of the week would wear. Christian Eriksen has been given the number 14 at Old Trafford.
Eriksen, who left Brentford on a free transfer to make the move North, trained with his new teammates for the first time on Tuesday.
He’d also partake (and score in) a behind-closed-doors friendly against Wrexham on Wednesday afternoon. United would win that game 4-1. Word on the grapevine is that the Dane’s goal was a free-kick.
Anyway, we now know he’ll wear the number 14 at United, previously worn by Jesse Lingard and Javier Hernandez before him. I have to say, it absolutely suits Eriksen.
I’ve said it time and time again but the addition of Eriksen cannot be understated. This is a man who absolutely knows his way around the football field, while adding some depth in a real position of need.
Eriksen’s versatility could also be huge. The Dane can either play alongside Bruno Fernandes in a deeper role, or directly replace the Portugal international in that ‘number 10’ position.
What I also love about this signing is that Eriksen is actually a likeable person. It feels really nice to have a player in that dressing room who you can actually root for.
The ex-Spurs man will not be here to make up the numbers. Eriksen absolutely has plans to start on a regular basis for United. You know what? I would not best against him doing exactly that in an Erik ten Hag system that suits his style perfectly.
