The iconic Bulgarian has shown flashes of brilliance since his big money move to Old Trafford, last season he found himself slip down the pecking order and the 30-year old remained dignified throughout, however he now feels his time at Manchester United is coming to an end.
Berbatov’s £30.75million move from Spurs still stands as our record transfer fee, with the majority of United fans feeling that he hasn’t lived up to the hefty price tag. I have to say I disagree, it may have taken him a while to adapt, but he always offered us something different when he played. Who can forget that classy assist he gave Ronaldo vs. West Ham? Or his superb hat-trick vs. Liverpool? Lets be honest, he won us the Premier League crown back in 2010-11.
Last season, he found himself fourth choice striker, behind Rooney, Welbeck, and Hernandez, but when called upon he still managed to find the net 7 times in 12 league appearances.
Just as we thought the possibility of Berbatov staying at the club was a real option, the Bulgarian wrote this on his Facebook page “Because I am tired of speculation, I am telling you this. I read the papers and I see they say £10million is my price.
“I go and talk with Sir Alex, and he says to me £5million. So who is telling the truth, what do you think? “And the truth is, I love this club, but I am not going to be useful to anyone, if I am not playing.
“And I want to play, I want to help. But for unknown reasons it’s not going to happen, or my chances will be limited, so it’s better for everyone if we say goodbye. If not, I am professional and I will keep doing everything I can, to help my team and my team-mates, whenever I have opportunity to do so.”
Personally, i’d love it if he stays, I just can’t see it though, he’s at that stage of his career where regular playing time is a necessity. With the club only asking for a mere £5million for him, surely one of Europe’s top clubs will come in for him soon, good luck to him, wherever he ends up!
