Club confirm coaching staff departures

After much speculation throughout the day, the club have confirmed that both Mike Phelan and Eric Steele will depart, presumably to make way for David Moyes’ staff. Mike Phelan joined the club as a coach in 2001, and took over as assistant in 2008, whereas Eric Steele joined the club in 2008.

For me, the key member of staff is Renee Mulensteen, so it’d be a mistake if Moyes decided to let him go. Whereas Mike Phelan’s concerned though, it isn’t the end of the world…

Eric Steele was a key part of David de Gea’s development too, so I hope this doesn’t change anything.

New Boss David Moyes said: “I would like to put on record the club’s thanks for everything Mike and Eric have done. I will be looking to appoint my own members of coaching staff at some point in the future, however, I’d like to take this opportunity to give them both our best wishes for their future careers.”
