West Ham United will try again in their pursuit of Harry Maguire under David Moyes.
Manchester United’s squad is expected to look rather different next season. With INEOS looking to put their own stamp on things, major change is likely to happen.
First and foremost, a clearing of the decks is required, particularly with money being tight, players will have to be sold in order to generate funds for the manager to spend.
One player whose future was up in the air last time around was Harry Maguire. The Englishman was heavily linked with a move to West Ham United, though in the end, he chose to stay put here in Manchester.
However, according to Football Insider, the London club are not giving up hope on Maguire, preparing to try again in their pursuit of the defender.
It’s stated that West Ham are to make another ‘formal approach’ to sign Maguire this summer, with manager David Moyes said to be a ‘huge admirer’ of the United star.
With just one year remaining on his current Reds deal, the situation is certainly different. United were relaxed about the Maguire situation last term, though this is the last chance the Reds have at getting some sort of transfer fee back for the 31-year-old. They may well push harder this time around.
Even if Moyes is let go by West Ham, it’s believed the London club will still look to sign the ex-United captain this summer.
I said it nine months ago and I’ll say it again now. This feels like a great move for both clubs, but I would totally understand it if Maguire chose to stay put here in Manchester again. This is his livelihood after all and there’s no way West Ham would match his current salary.
