Cody Gakpo has admitted he will think about making a move to Man United – assuming an offer comes in.
Manchester United have been linked with several players already ahead of the summer transfer window, though one rumour that seemingly won’t go away is a potential move for Cody Gakpo.
The Dutchman has been super impressive at the World Cup, following being heavily linked with a transfer to Old Trafford over the summer.
Having scored three goals already, while his side are in the quarter-finals, Gakpo is looking like the real deal. His versatility, both positionally and stylistically, is what makes him such an attractive proposition for any potential buyer.
Now, when asked about interest from the Reds, the 23-year-old has admitted he will ‘think about’ making a transfer to United – if they make their move for him. It’s also pretty funny that he flat-out turned down a move to Leeds United.
Gakpo told Dutch outlet NRC (translated via Fabrizio Romano):
“I thought about Manchester United last summer, but when that didn’t happen, I didn’t know anymore. Then Leeds [United] arrived and I had doubts. Now I wait and see.
“I haven’t heard from Manchester United yet. If they come, I will think about it – with God’s help.”
You have to imagine that United remain interested in Gakpo. If anything, that belief in his ability could have only heightened over the last few months – he has been sensational.
The problem? The transfer fee is only rising. That £30million over the summer has now probably doubled to £60million. The longer you leave it, the more expensive Gakpo will become.
I’d suggest a January transfer is somewhat unlikely. After all, PSV Eindhoven will want to keep ahold of their prized asset until the summer, whereas United may not have the funds available in the mid-season window after spending big last time around.
