Cody Gakpo keen on Man United move if Reds can agree deal with PSV

PSV winger, Cody Gakpo, would be interested in joining Man United if a fee could be agreed.

Manchester United are just striking out when it comes to securing their transfer targets. Both Benjamin Sesko and Antony will not be making the move to Manchester, leaving the Reds having to look elsewhere.

Marko Arnautovic is one name linked. A deal for the Austrian looks somewhat likely.

Over the last 24 hours, another name has been thrown into the mix; Cody Gakpo.

It’s ESPN with the report, who are usually accurate when it comes to United transfer news.

They state that United have now ‘registered their interest’ in signing the winger. Gakpo’s agents have been ‘alerted’ to the Reds’ keenness in their client, though the old Trafford club are yet to submit a bid.

Gakpo is valued at around £35m by PSV, who are managed by United legend, Ruud van Nistelrooy. Sources have told ESPN that Eindhoven aren’t willing to accept anything less than the aforementioned valuation.

The 23-year-old came through their academy and scored 21 goals in 47 games last term. He won Dutch Player of the Year, while also being capped 7 times by his country in the process.

On top of that, the player would be ‘keen to move’ to United if a fee can be agreed.

Erik ten Hag will be familiar with Gakpo from his time managing Ajax in the Eredivisie, meaning the gaffer will know exactly what his countryman could offer United.

It goes without saying, we’re absolutely desperate for some depth in the final third. Gakpo feels like a direct alternative to Antony, who will not be leaving Ajax during this window.

I like the thought process behind this one, though with time running out in the window, I still have my doubts about whether United can get a deal done.

Do you think Cody Gakpo would be a good signing for Man United? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below.
