Man United are looking good to sign Cody Gakpo before the transfer window slams shut.
Manchester United Football Club have endured yet another disappointing transfer window.
Erik ten Hag will have hoped for more than the three players he has been delivered thus far, though the Dutchman will remain hopeful that more deals will get over the line.
A new winger seems to be pretty close to the top of the priority list, which makes sense given how thin the Reds are in that area of the field.
Ajax winger Antony felt like the prime target, though Ten Hag will not be reunited with his former winger this summer, with United being priced out of a move.
One name who the Red Devils are becoming increasingly linked with is Cody Gakpo. The winger was named Dutch Player of the Year for his efforts in 2022/23, during which Gakpo contributed to over 30 goals for PSV Eindhoven.
Well, one journalist reckons that he will ‘most likely’ be signed by United this summer. However, Jacque Talbot does add a caveat. The 23-year-old represents Ten Hag’s third choice in his position…
Time and time again, this comes back to the powers-that-be at United failing to deliver their manager their top targets. We go through this every single summer, with Ten Hag now suffering a similar fate.
United dilly-dally when it comes to their prime targets, or spend too long haggling over fees. Then, move on to players who represent upgrades on the current squad, but not necessarily the ideal player for the given situation.
I’m sure Gakpo is someone who could do a job, though perhaps not to the level of Antony. Again, it just feels like Ten Hag is working with one hand tied behind his back.
