The Man United squad vs Istanbul Basaksehir has been confirmed by the Manchester Evening News, with the Red Devils seemingly taking no risks for this one.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Manchester United are two wins from two in the Champions League. Now for a double-header against arguably the weakest side in their group; Istanbul Basaksehir.
Win both and our place in the knockout rounds is all-but secure. Simply put, that has to be our aim, giving us wiggle-room going into two tough games against RB Leipzig and Paris Saint-Germain.
First up is the away trip to the Turkish capital, with United looking to continue their impressive European form.
Ahead of the game, we’ve been given the all-important squad news, with the Baby Faced Assassin taking a 23-man party to Turkey. Two United stars are missing through injury. Alex Telles still has coronavirus while Jesse Lingard is also missing. While a pair of young defenders, Axel Tuanzebe and Teden Mengi, both travel.
Confirmed 23 man United squad vs Istanbul Basaksehir:
David de Gea, Dean Henderson, Lee Grant; Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Timothy Fosu-Mensah, Axel Tuanzebe, Victor Lindelof, Teden Mengi, Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw, Brandon Williams; Nemanja Matic, Fred, Scott McTominay, Paul Pogba, Donny van de Beek, Juan Mata, Daniel James, Bruno Fernandes; Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford, Edinson Cavani, Odion Ighalo, Mason Greenwood.
Tuanzebe was simply outstanding against PSG a fortnight ago. Now feels like the perfect opportunity for him to get more minutes under his belt. He’s shown his capabilities at the highest level and he’ll be feeling well-rested. Let’s see what he can do.
As for the rest of the squad, it’s anyone’s guess in regards to who Solskjaer will start. I’d like to think Donny van de Beek will play, while it’d be lovely to watch Edinson Cavani line up from the get-go.
Strong cases can be made for Juan Mata to play from the off, while I wouldn’t begrudge some minutes for Brandon Williams, either.
At the end of the day, though, it’s about getting the job done. Whatever team played by Solskjaer should have more than enough quality to scoop all three points.
